A benefit concert for AFEC - A Future for Every Child, by Sudha Subbaraman, with Karthik Jayaram on vocals and Boston Aalaap band on live music, Hirak Modi on harmonium, and Yogesh Karale on Tabla.
Join us for a music concert "Surmayee Shaam | Inspirations to Legacies" to benefit A Future for Every Child (AFEC). We will present a bouquet of some timeless and refreshing songs in a few Indian languages while keeping you musically engaged with some surprise elements.
AFEC helps disadvantaged youth in India who are forced to exit orphanages or care homes upon turning 18 with no support for the future.
AFEC's Launchpad for Adulthood program helps them transition to independence and economic stability by providing them full support for tuition and board for vocational training or higher education, life skills training, assistance with job placement, and mentoring for 2 years.

Sudha Subbaraman
Sudha finds her niche in classical and spiritual music. Her passion for sounds and alaaps was deepened with basic Dhrupad training from the Padmashri Gundecha Brothers. Sudha has performed Hindustani classical, devotional bhajans, abhangs, bhavgeet and Hindi film music actively in the Boston area for several prestigious events.Sudha is also a certified Vocal coach and Vocal Yoga instructor using the Heather Lyle VocalYoga Method. She runs the SwaraYogaShala®️ school which offers private holistic voice lessons and music training for teenagers and kids. She has composed a healing Album "Sounds for Healing", and teaches Vocal Yoga, meditation and chakra-clearing workshops incorporating Indian classical music at Yoga studios and wellness centers.Sudha has been practicing Yoga on and off the mat for a few years and has been studying about Relaxation response and stress-relieving techniques using breath and voice. She is a firm believer of Ayurveda and Dinacharya practices and believes that the body can heal with it's own mechanics. Voicework is a product of Yoga, pranayama and vocal physics. When the human body is free from encumbrances, it's vocal potential is limitless. Not only can it sing, but it can also heal.
