Helmed by the noted director Rajeev Goswami, the story follows the journey of Amiran, kidnapped as a child and sold to a brothel in Lucknow. Forced into the life of a courtesan and renamed Umraao Jaan Ada, her life undergoes an irrevocable transformation, especially after she meets and falls deeply in love with Nawab Sultan. What unfolds is a tumultuous relationship spanning decades, inseparable despite the cruelty of circumstances and societal norms conspiring to keep them apart.
In portraying Umrao Jaan's all-consuming love and inner turmoil, Neetu Chandra is poised to deliver a career-defining performance. Supported by a stellar cast and crew, she will breathe tangible life into this tragic saga, immortalized in Ruswa's novel and popularized by Muzaffar Ali's 1981 film starring Rekha.
Neetu Chandra
Chandra debuted in the Hindi film industry in 2005 with Garam Masala, in which she portrayed the role of Sweety, an air hostess. She also acted in Godavari, a Telugu film, in 2006. In 2007, she appeared in Madhur Bhandarkar's film, Traffic Signal.
In 2008, she had four releases, directed by Dibakar Banerjee, Rahul Dholakia, Ashwini Dheer, and Vikram. Her Tamil film, Yavarum Nalam with Madhavan, released in 2009, was declared a major hit. In 2010, she was seen in four Hindi films: Rann, Apartment, No Problem, in which she made a special appearance, and Sadiyaan, and one Tamil film, Theeradha Vilaiyattu Pillai.
